Nothing beats a fresh tangy lemon tart with raspberries on a warm late Spring day! Okay, a handcrafted ice cream cone might also be in the running. But that sweet and sour pair of lemon and raspberries gets me every time, whatever form it takes. When I was living in Australia, I realized that lemon tarts are a thing. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t really see them in the states.  In Oz, you can find a lemon tart in almost any cafe, to be delightfully paired with a fresh cuppa, tea Read more […]

Before I moved back to Australia, I could count on one hand the occasions I had eaten Passionfruit. Since they aren’t grown in the states, I first came across one when I travelled to New Zealand and Oz many years ago. So when I found myself swimming in hundreds of passionfruit from the abundant tree in my backyard, it was about time I discovered what this strange tropical fruit was all about. I have to admit the goopy yellow pulp with black seeds didn’t first strike me as something I was dying to Read more […]

This week at Institute for Integrative Nutrition, or IIN, as I fondly think of it, we are learning all about Ayurvedic Medicine. It still amazes me how much wisdom and knowledge there is to be found in ancient ideologies like Ayurvedic Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine. In our Western world, we’ve often been taught to think these ways of life are primitive and inferior to our Western Medicine technologies and developments. Not to say that Western Medicine hasn’t brought many great advancements Read more […]

For some of you it may be starting to look and feel like Fall, but here in California it still feels like Summer to me! Visit your local Farmer’s Market to take advantage of all the delicious end of Summer produce for this bright and cleansing Seasonal Summer Kale Salad. You can even experiment with the different varieties of kale they have to offer. For this salad, I used a combination of my two favorites- Curly and Purple Kale. And this salad is great for a BBQ or Summer picnic. And what’s Read more […]

Seasonal Summer Clean Eats- Paleo Aprium Upside Down Cake

Aprium Upside Down Cake (Paleo)

This Summer treat was inspired by Deborah Madison’s Seasonal Fruit Desserts.  My beautiful Aunt Nancy always finds fun ways to spoil me. She bought this for me at an adorable little bookstore in downtown Santa Cruz the last time we catered a retreat together. Insight Retreat Center has a beautiful orchard and garden and any time there is fresh fruit picked from the trees we turn it into some sort of fruit crumble or tart for the yogis. It just wouldn’t be Summer without a warm bubbly peach crisp Read more […]
